Causeway Coast Foodie Tours is embracing this autumn / winter season by hosting a very special ‘The Spirit of the Bann’ river whiskey tasting experience; an ideal and unique opportunity to slowly savour the colours and flavours of Autumn. Enjoy a warm glow and celebrate the beautiful blend of natural & man-made wonders our stunning Causeway Coast has to offer!

Where better to celebrate the unique Slow Food food and drink heritage than via a journey on the River Bann alongside the beautiful site of Mountsandel, Coleraine.

Retrace the voyages of past ancestors who settled here some 9,000 years ago; and travel by river with newly established local operators White River Charters, on their vintage vessel, ‘MV Kingfisher’. 

This glorious wooden boat was built by the world-renowned Harland and Wolff shipbuilders in the historic Belfast Shipyard (of Titanic fame!) and has been beautifully restored and tailored to provide visitors with a truly first-class visitor experience. There are many home comforts on board including covered & comfortable seating, cosy blankets and plenty of good cheer. 

Immerse yourself in nature from the comfort of the boat exploring the River Bann from the and absorb the sights and sounds of the changing season where the wooded riverbanks present a burst of vibrant autumn colours.

Whiskey guide Tim, will showcase a selection of whiskies produced by Bushmills Distillery – the oldest, licensed, whiskey distillery in the world, along with a special whiskey directly associated with the local area, all rich and full of flavour, with a unique depth of character. Tim will explain tasting notes of each while highlighting colour, age, blends, casks, nose, aromas and flavour notes and his selection will provide a variety of autumnal flavours including toffee, maple syrup, caramel, fruits & spices.

These world class whiskies will be accompanied by a hand-picked selection of award-winning local Slow Food produce including charcuterie, cheeses, dipping oils & home-made chutneys from around the Causeway Coast.

Wrap up warm, share food & stories and experience the warm glow from the welcome and the whiskies!

Established in 2020, White River Charters Limited is jointly owned, managed and crewed by causeway coast residents, Fiona Bryant and Ian McKnight. Offering slow and relaxing river cruises of the Lower Bann, onboard MV Kingfisher, a refurbished wooden harbour launch, built in 1947 by Harland and Wolff in the historic Belfast Shipyard.

Your hosts Fiona and Ian share a passion for people and food and they share a love of boating, maritime heritage and the outdoors. They have channelled their energy into the careful restoration of their classic boat and are focussed on developing a selection of cruise itineraries to ensure visitors have a truly memorable experience. They are enthusiastic and love sharing the beautiful river scenery and wonderful wildlife with local people and visitors alike. 

They are committed to providing a memorable experience and adhere to the highest health and safety standards. Their vessel is Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Coded Category 4. 

White River Charters is licensed for 12 passengers and 2 crew.


About Bushmills Distillery

Bushmills is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. Official records date back to 1608 and over 400 years later, the traditional craft is still being upheld in the picturesque village along the North Coast.

The world famous whiskey is loved by many across the globe which uses elements of the local environment in its recipe such as water drawn from the River Bush which flows over beds of basalt rock.
