In the current food climate shoppers can find it difficult to know where their food comes from – that’s not the case with the Glensway Tavern and Farm Shop in Martinstown.
The McKay family bring the best local produce to customers, including beef from their farm, just outside Martinstown, and expertly butchered in house.
They also source the best local suppliers for their meat, fish and bakery section producing a number of fresh breads as well as fruit, vegetables and other locally sourced products.
Their bar and farm shop provides a unique experience to locals and customers from further afield with an updated approach to the pub-grocer concept popular throughout Ireland in the past serving a wide range of Craft beers, ciders, spirits.
Nicknamed ‘Your Gateway to the Glen’, Brendan McKay is the 14th owner of the bar which has been serving the people of Martinstown and beyond since the 1830s.
In 2018, Brendan undertook a complete refurbishment, turning the Glensway into an attractive spacious restaurant seating 74 people and a lounge bar as well as a traditional Irish bar where live country and Irish music is played at weekends.
Both tourists and locals alike can feast on traditional Irish dishes including filled sodas or potato bread for breakfast and a warming bowl of homemade soup or fish and chips for lunch.
The delicious food carries on into the evening when head chef Damian Simpson offers a tempting array of daily specials as well as curries, Italian dishes, homemade pizzas and more traditional Irish dishes such as sirloin steak and Chicken Maryland.
Vegetarian options are available too as well as gluten-free menu items and where possible, food is sourced locally with quality fresh produce as the top priority at the Glensway Tavern.
