Native Seafood & Scran on the stunning seafront in Portstewart is a seafood haven for tourists and locals alike. The modern take on fishmongery was set up by owners Rebekah and Stevie McCarry to satisfy their own gastronomic requirements as well as locals and visitors.
Frustrated by the gap between what the fishermen were catching and supplying, and what the public was actually being serviced, Native Seafood & Scran initially functioned by online pre-orders and delivery, but now has a seafood restaurant, takeaway pod and fishmonger’s Portstewart.
Today, the business is not only able to supply cooked food to customers but is able to sell high-quality, locally-produced ingredients to those who wish to cook the food themselves.
The team at Native Seafood & Scran meet the fishermen as they come into the harbour, check the catch, bring it back to the premises, fillet it down and either use for their menu, or sell it directly to the public.
From standard fresh fish fillets to squid tacos, lobster roll and Kentucky Fried Monkfish Burgers, to a café and kids menu, there is always something to choose from.
Native Seafood & Scran pride themselves on making everything from scratch, to order and only using local ingredients to accompany their sustainably sourced seafood, even if it means frequently changing their menu because of weather, seasonality and their zero-waste policy.
