Giant Leap Forward for New Distillery

Mar 01, 2024

Giant Taste of Causeway Coast and Glens took a GIANT leap forward today with the fantastic news that the Glens of Antrim Distillery has been granted planning permission.

The state-of-the-art distillery and visitors centre will be a significant addition to the destination’s food and drink offer. It will also kick start another multi-million pound investment in the scenic coastal village of Cushendall by the McKillop family, owners of the multi award winning Glens of Antrim and Shindigs Crisp brands.

In 2022, Glens of Antrim Distillery launched its first whiskey. Lir Whiskey is inspired by the myth of the Children of Lir, who were turned into swans for 900 years by their wicked Step-Mother.  It is currently available in Red and Green Crest.

As well as immersive, interactive tours, visitors to the distillery situated right on the Causeway Coastal Route looking out to sea with the rolling Glens in the background, can look forward to a stunning on-site restaurant focusing on local food and drink, a retail area, a regular calendar of exclusive tasting experiences and lots of opportunities to become immersed in the region’s myths and legends.

Mary McKillop one of three family Directors at Glens of Antrim Distillery commented

“Glens of Antrim Distillery will bring a significant, anchor tourism offering to this part of  Causeway Coast and Glens and Causeway Coastal Route. We aspire to be one of the most exciting, innovative and immersive distillery experiences on the island of Ireland. This is our opportunity to preserve the stories from our local community, as well as well as our whiskey barrels, in stunning surroundings which will create jobs and further commercial opportunities in the local area.”
